Help Scout data migration

LiveAgent offers seamless migration of your Help Scout data through API without the need of any coding. Everything is handled through our import plugin. If you would need any help with the migration, you are welcome to reach our support at support@liveagent.com.

The Help Scout data migration plugin migrates into LiveAgent the following data:

  • Help Scout customers as LiveAgent contacts
  • Help Scout customers' companies as LiveAgent companies
  • Help Scout users as LiveAgent agents
  • Help Scout teams as LiveAgent departments
  • Help Scout tags as LiveAgent tags
  • Help Scout tickets as LiveAgent tickets
  • Help Scout ticket fields as LiveAgent ticket fields
  • Help Scout docs sites & categories, and articles as LiveAgent knowledge base categories and articles

Retrieve your Help Scout API key

To be able to migrate your Help Scout data to LiveAgent, it is required to retrieve your Help Scout API key, and create a custom app.

To get your API key, click on your profile image in the top right corner of your Help Scout panel, click on the "Your Profile" menu item, and navigate to the Authantication > API Keys section.

Create a Help Scout app

To create a custom Help Scout app, navigate to the "My Apps" section still in your profile. Click on the "Create My App" button, name your app, and enter as its redirection URL for example the URL address of your LiveAgent account.

Upon creating the custom app its configuration will be opened with the App ID and App Secret available.

Activate the migration plugin

In LiveAgent agent panel navigate to Configuration > System > Plugins. Find the "Help Scout Migration" plugin and click on the "Activate" button next to it.

Configure the migration plugin

After activating the plugin and refreshing your panel, click on the Configure (pencil icon) button to set up the plugin. In its configuration window, enter the App ID and App Secret of your custom Help Scout app and your Help Scout API key into the belonging fields. If you'd like to migrate tickets only from specific Help Scout inboxes, enter their names separated by a comma into the "Mailboxes" field, otherwise all tickets from all inboxes will be migrated. Click the "Save" button to initiate the migration.

As soon as you save the plugin's configuration window, a background task begins that initiates the data migration. Data is migrated in batches, creating e.g. new tickets or contacts continuously. Once all data is migrated, the background task stops and the migration is complete.
