We offer our own free WordPress plugin to integrate LiveAgent accounts with WordPress. The plugin allows you to automatically add a chat button to every page of your WordPress website or even to the administrator panel, track additional details about logged-in customers, and create a customer account in your LiveAgent account for every customer who signs up to your WordPress website.
Installing & connecting the plugin
To install the plugin, navigate in your WordPress admin panel to Plugins > Add New, type "LiveAgent" into the search box, and install the "LiveAgent - Omnichannel Help Desk & Live Chat Software" plugin by clicking on the "Install Now" button.
The plugin can be also downloaded from the WordPress Plugins page and manually added to your WordPress installation directory into the wp_content/plugins subdirectory, or you can use the Upload Plugin option in your WordPress admin panel >Plugins > Add New.
Do not forget to "Activate" the plugin after installing it.
After activating the plugin, navigate in the menu to the "LiveAgent" tab. In this section, you are able to create a new Free LiveAgent account, or if you already have a LiveAgent account, skip this step by clicking on the "SKIP THIS STEP, I ALREADY HAVE AN ACCOUNT" link.
Creating a new LiveAgent account might take up to several minutes and will connect your account automatically. This option will create a new LiveAgent account on the Free plan that has some limitations.
If you skip the new Free account creation step, a form to connect your existing LiveAgent account will be displayed instead. Here you need to insert:
- The URL of your LiveAgent account in the requested form, e.g. https://mycompany.ladesk.com/
- Your owner/admin email (username)
- API v1 key
The API v1 key can be found in Configuration > System > API. The API v3 key cannot be used.
Plugin configuration
After connecting your LiveAgent account, you will be able to configure the plugin. The configuration screen is divided into 4 sections:
1. Your LiveAgent account
In this section, you are able to see the URL of the LiveAgent account which is currently connected by the plugin. You can choose to:
- Connect to a different account - Re-do the account connection step described above. If you click on this option but do not re-connect another account, the current account will remain connected.
- Login to your account - Open your LiveAgent agent panel in a new browser tab if you are logged in to your account, if not you will be redirected to the login screen.
- Reset everything and start over - Reset the plugin and disconnect your LiveAgent account.
2. Your chat buttons
In this section, you are able to choose which chat button will be displayed on your WordPress website, and also if the button should be displayed in the WordPress admin panel as well. Clicking on the "Add more buttons" button will open the Configuration > Chat > Chat Buttons section of your LiveAgent agent panel in a new browser tab if you are logged in to your account, if not you will be redirected to the login screen.
3. Actual button code
This section displays the integration script of your currently used chat button. The script can be manually rewritten if needed. Additionally, it is possible to track the name, email address, and level of the customer logged in to your WordPress after starting a chat with you.
Every change in the button's script, either manual or made by activating any additional options, requires confirmation by clicking on the "Save widget code" button.
If you switch to a different chat button in the "Your chat buttons" section, the script will be automatically replaced.
4. Additional settings
In this section, you are able to choose to create a customer account in your LiveAgent account for every customer who signs up in your WordPress. It also allows you to use WordPress shortcode [customerPortalLogin] with an option to set login caption: [customerPortalLogin caption="Login to your customer portal"] which allows your customers to automatically log in to your LiveAgent customer portal to see their tickets.
